7 Ways to Save at Starbucks for Life
One simple way to save on coffee for life is to shop at Starbucks Store and do the barista thing yourself. But if you can’t eliminate the ritual of walking to your local establishment each morning—or if that cute barista is too much to give up—there are still a number of ways to save at Starbucks.
Ways to Save at Starbucks
1. Bring Your Own Mug
Starbucks offers a 10-cent discount on every purchase when you use your own mug. In January 2013 to reduce waste, they launched their $1 reusable cup in the US and Canada. These mugs and tumblers will pay for themselves after 10 uses.
2. Buy Discounted Starbucks Gift Cards
A trick reserved for only the most diligent savers, you can purchase discounted Starbucks gift cards. Often you’ll find discounts of up to 50 percent. A few minutes of research provides a lifetime of cheaper coffee.
3. Build Your Own Latte
Order two classic espressos with ice. Add milk at the bar. Sprinkle a flavoring of your choice and you have your very own latte. Genius, right?
4. Get Free Refills
Rewards members are only eligible for free refills. Refills are 50 cents for non-rewards members.
5. Sign Up for My Starbucks Rewards
Accumulate stars and watch the perks add up when you sign up for My Starbucks Rewards. It’s free. Once you reach five stars (five drinks) you’ll receive a 15 percent discount. Said Starbucks coffee artist Corey LeVier: “Becoming a gold member can be beneficial in so many ways. You can earn free drinks, take advantage of free refills on coffee, iced coffee and teas, and receive special offers on a weekly basis.”
6. Attend Starbucks Happy Hour
Registered members will also receive occasional info on Starbucks Happy Hours. Every so often Starbucks will throw a happy hour offering half-priced drinks. It doesn’t hurt to check out social media and sign up for a Starbucks card to get in the know.
7. Order a Short Size
There’s a reason tall is the smallest size: They want you to spend more. But there is a smaller sized cup available that is unadvertised—a short. If you’re the type of person who never finishes a tall, go for a short because they’re cheaper.
